UBC Thunderbirds Sport Clubs Application – Now Open

TSC_201617_ImagineDayGroupThe UBC Thunderbirds Sport Clubs (UBC TSC) Program has opened the application for groups interested in gaining Competitive Sport Clubs status again, for the second intake since its launch in September 2015.

With the caliber of athletes and teams consistently exceeding expectations, groups interested in joining the Sport Clubs community within UBC Athletics & Recreation can expect a high standard of excellence, but one that is supportive and inclusive.

Originally starting with nine sports, which included: Alpine Ski, Fencing, Lacrosse, Nordic Ski, Sailing, Synchronized Swimming, Tennis, Ultimate, and Wrestling; UBC TSC increased the repertoire of sports to – Cycling, Dragon Boat, Equestrian, Quidditch, and Water Polo in 2016. While Clubs within the program officially represent the University in Competition, and receive support from Athletics and Recreation, some groups may find it beneficial to remain in the AMS at UBC. The Fencing and Wrestling teams, both which were previously UBC TSC, are thriving within the AMS and continue to build their sporting communities within the Student Society on campus.

Groups that fulfill the Sport Clubs requirements are encouraged to apply for status this year. After this round of applications, the Sport Clubs Program is looking to further develop the teams currently in existence and will be closing the application until 2020.

“The UBC Thunderbirds Sport Clubs program aims to provide highly competitive students on campus an opportunity to represent their school in a sport they love, gain leadership skills, and build lifelong friendships. We are excited to continuously grow the program, and look forward to receiving applications for the 2017-2018 Season.”
