Tips to Stay Fit During the Holiday Season

Be Active

Whatever your plans, a busy holiday schedule could make it difficult to maintain a consistent workout routine. Always try to follow your fitness routine whenever possible, and if not, walk or take the stairs more often! Even getting in an extra 30 minutes of walking per day could help you stay more active.

Plan More Activities

Plan more activities with your friends or family that encourages everyone to get moving! Whether if it is going to holiday themed events, walking and looking at Christmas lights, or having a snowball fight, activities are a great way to bond with your friends and family, while burning off a few calories.

Go Play in the Snow

If you live or are visiting an area with a lot of snow this year, the snow can be a great piece of fitness equipment! Go skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, or ice skating. Go have a snowball fight, build a snowman, or shovel your driveway. It can be a great full body workout.

Eat Before You Arrive

Eating something before heading out is one of the easiest ways to not overindulge at family dinners. Eating regularly is important to achieving your fitness goals. Distribute your meals evenly throughout the day, and don’t skip meals to make up for the treats consumed the previous day. Skipping meals can lead to counterproductive results, making you feel hungrier and craving more calories by the time you get to a dinner.

Enjoy Yourself

The trick is to have everything in moderation – instead of trying to restrain yourself, plan which foods you really want to enjoy! Make a plan to eat reasonably sized portions, and choose the treats you love that you don’t get to have outside the holidays.
