After an exciting week of competition at the USCSA National Championships, the Ski Bird ladies mark the end of the season with a 9th place overall team finish! The team battled stormy conditions all week, but the deep snow and strong winds didn’t hold them back. They were able to defeat their rival, the College of Idaho, to come out as the top team representing the North-West conference.

In GS, rookie Katherine Greer lead the UBC team with a 29th place finish. Jordan Fitzgerald slid in 1.27 seconds behind her with a 31st place finish. Lauren Hale (48th) provided the third score to earn the UBC 11th place in the team standings.

Teammates Jordan Fitzgerald and Lauren Hale finished their slalom races neck-in-neck with combined times just 4 hundredths of a second apart, earning them 23rd and 24th places respectively. Michele Warner came in at 45th to get the Ski Birds to a 9th place finish.

Athletes Jordan Fitzgerald and Lauren Hale impressed the competition with 6th and 7th placings respectively in Skier Cross, carrying the team to a 2nd place standing overall. This outstanding result shows just how diverse the team’s talent is!

With the help of the alumni, volunteers, and community partnerships, the Ski Birds look forward to the challenges and successes that next season will bring. In addition to goals of improved athlete numbers and an increasingly competitive training program, the Birds are hoping to make investments to benefit the team for years to come – items like radios, gates, drills, and suits.

Your support is what allows this team to continue to thrive – making training and competing as the only Canadian team in the USCSA a possibility. All contributions are greatly appreciated and go directly toward causes that benefit our athletes. This includes reducing the costs involved in competing across the United States, as well as investing in key purchases that improve the calibre of the training program. If you are interested in contributing to the ski team’s success in the seasons to come, you can do so at this link.

As always, you can stay up to date with the team by following us on social media (Facebook and Instagram) and by subscribing to our newsletters. If you or any athletes you know are considering coming to UBC next year, we are more than happy to answer any questions at alpineski.sc@ubc.ca.

Thank you for your continued support!
