Being a part of a team allowed me to spend time with friends, do something fun, and get some well-needed exercise which is often easier said than done in the heart of a semester. It was a huge stress reliever for me.

Michael’s journey with recreation started when his Residence Advisor put his oor in for a just-for-fun Day of the Longboat team. Throughout the year he also joined a few UBC Intramurals league teams and Stormed the Wall! UBC Recreation programs turned out to be an incredible way to form stronger relationships with his oor mates as well as a way to refresh his mind from university class work.

Michael’s Top Picks

Day of the Longboat

“Only one person on our team (my R.A.) had ever paddled before and we ended up having a blast and winning our just-for-fun heat!  It felt great to accomplish something together as a floor.”

Day of the Longboat is a UBC signature event with over 3,000 people paddling in the largest voyageur canoe race in the world.  Find out more or register your team.
