UBC creates new Physical Activity office

UBC Kinesiology, Athletics and Recreation, and UBC Wellbeing are partnering to establish the Physical Activity Office for the UBC Point Grey Campus. The new group’s primary mission will be to change behaviors, improve health, advance and translate research, and positively impact our campus and broader community through physical activity. Canada is facing a public health epidemic with recent research revealing that more than 90% of Canadian children are not meeting currently physical activity guidelines in Canada*. Canada also ranks amongst the worst of OECD countries for adult obesity rates*.

Through the Physical Activity Office, UBC has the potential to be a global leader in the study and programming of physical activity to improve individual health, wellbeing, and quality of life. This new resource will lead and coordinate programming, research, and education in physical activity and health promotion across the UBC Point Grey campus. The Physical Activity Office will also institute best practices and apply key learnings. Specific focus will be provided to translate research into practice through the application of research outcomes to improve the lives of the UBC community.

To advance the work of the Physical Activity Office, two new positions will be hired:

  1. Physical Activity and Wellbeing Strategist housed in the School of Kinesiology
  2. Physical Activity Manager housed in UBC Recreation

The postings can be found through UBC Human Resources job postings.
