Nov 18th, 2017

The Thunderbirds travelled to New Westminster on Saturday night for their first game of the weekend against the Coquitlam Adanacs (4-1-1). UBC started the game strong, opening the scoring off a bounce shot by captain Tomas Syskakis. After Jamie Gill won the ensuing faceoff, the offense controlled the ball for an extended possession that ended in Ryan Wilkinson scoring his first of the game, giving the Thunderbirds an early 2-0 lead. Coquitlam would follow up with a goal of their own, but attackman Connor Frost would quickly answer back with his first of the night.  Syskakis netted his second of the night, and Jared Pozzobon tallied late in the second quarter to carry the ‘birds into halftime with a 5-3 lead.

To open the third quarter, each team traded goals while senior attackers Brendan Lancaster and Phil Pomeroy each potting their first of the night. Frost tallied his second of the game taking the Thunderbirds into the final quarter leading by a score of 8-6. Halfway through the final frame, Lancaster made a great individual effort to score his second of the night with a top corner shot. Wilkinson added another of his own to round out the scoring for the ‘birds. Senior goaltender Dean Grimm led the defensive charge holding the Adanacs to only a single goal in the fourth quarter, preserving a 10-7 win for the Thunderbirds.
