Drop-In Swim and Drop-In Fitness Class Descriptions

Drop-in Aquacize Classes are included with admission, a membership pass, or free with a valid UBC Student card. Purchase a membership pass to access the best rates.

Public Swim time is open to all ages. All children aged 7 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult or youth, at least 16 years of age, responsible for the direct supervision of the child and actively swimming within arm’s reach at all times.

Length Swim is for lap swim only and open to the general public. All public participants must be 16 years of age or older to participate in length swim times.

Mild stretching, relaxation, balance, and core exercises on the pool deck, followed by 30 minutes of shallow water exercise performed to music.

Performed in chest-depth water with music to get you motivated and moving. Class includes muscular strength and endurance, core stability, flexibility, and more.

Personalize your workout by going at your own pace in this class in shallow water. You will spend 1 minute at each station working different major muscle groups. This is a complete body workout & suitable for all fitness levels and swim levels.

Shallow water exercise to get your morning started right! This low impact, high energy challenge to improve cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, balance and core muscles takes place in the Recreation Pool.

Improve cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance, and flexibility with this deep-water workout.

This class has no impact on your joints, but it has an enormous impact on your cardiovascular system and core strength with the help of the resistance in the water! Equipment and a selection of core exercises will be used to enhance strength training and core strengthening. Floatation belts will be provided, or try exercising without the belt for a greater emphasis on core and cardiovascular conditioning. Participants must be comfortable in deep water.

A combination of shallow and deep water classes that focus on cardio endurance, core stabilization, strength, balance, and flexibility. You choose the depth and take it to your own personal level of exertion! Participants of all ages and levels of fitness are welcome.

Aquatic rehab exercises are performed in the warmer water. Aqua rehab can be beneficial in treating a variety of medical conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia, stroke recovery, diabetes, osteoporosis, joint pain and sports injuries. Water resistance is a gentle, but effective strengthening tool, ideal for recovery. The focus will be on low and non-weight bearing activities, mobility, easy stretching for joint flexibility and mild resistance exercises.

This slower paced shallow water exercise will provide a relaxing, energizing, stretching movement with no impact on joints. Aqua Range of Motion (ROM) Stretch is designed to improve balance and posture, improve endurance and flexibility. Relieve stress and strain with stretching movements in water for life on land.

Aqua Zumba is a high energy, calorie burning aquacize class and easy to follow exercise moves performed in shallow water to Latin music. The music and the exercise will keep you coming back for more. Get energized! Registration is required; no drop-in admission available.

Get fit during your lunch break! Improve your swim strokes and endurance through interval training and stroke drills. Great for triathletes, masters and recreational swimmers. A coach will provide training workouts, stroke correction and development instruction, breathing, flip turn and racing start techniques. Prerequisite: Must be able to swim 50m.

Exercising in the water is refreshing and rejuvenating during pregnancy and following birth. All Fit4Two instructors are certified Pre and Post natal fitness specialists and follow the guidelines of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC). Par-Med-X for Pregnancy from must be signed by your health care provider (physician or midwife) prior to you participating in class. This form can be downloaded at www.fit4two.ca. A gentle water workout with little to no impact. Specifically designed to increase flexibility and muscular strength for people with joint stiffness or arthritis. Improve your balance and range of motion through gentle, low intensity movements to help you with your daily activities. Class to take place in the warm leisure pool.

Fitness and fun for mom and baby! Ease back into fitness and introduce your baby to the water. Your certified Fit 4 Two® Pre and Postnatal Fitness Specialist will lead you through 45 minutes of cardio and muscular endurance while incorporating your baby through song and movement.

Walking is one of the best forms of exercise. Walking against a gentle current in the warm lazy river is even better. This form of exercise is ideal for individuals with disabilities, neuromuscular or heart disease, injuries or joint replacements. This low-impact workout is easy on the joints while the water’s resistance develops muscular and core strength, balance and conditioning. All fitness levels can participate.

Improve skills and endurance through distance swimming, stroke correction, and interval training. This coached-supervised program is great for the recreational swimmer who would like to improve strength, endurance, and cardiovascular training.

You don’t have to travel far to make a splash! A drop-in water play program for children, ages 6 months to 5 years, with caregivers in the warm leisure pool. A Water Leader will facilitate water games, activities, songs, water orientation and safety, a fun environment which includes physical, social and motor skills. Toys, floating mats, small slide, water boats and lazy river are available. Water diapers must be worn by all children not toilet trained. Caregivers must be within arm’s reach of children at all times.

Watsu combines elements of joint mobilization, shiatsu, and muscle stretching in the pool. Watsu group classes focus on stretching and strengthening common problem muscle groups and joints.
