Welcome to UBC Recreation Dance!

Dancing is a creative outlet for you to express yourself and UBC Recreation offers a variety of dance classes taught by energetic instructors to help you display this. In addition to learning dance techniques, you will improve your posture and balance while reducing stress and improving relaxation. All of our dance classes including but not limited to Lyrical Jazz, Hip Hop, and Latin Fever, are designed to meet the needs of all skill levels!

Pedestrian Route Changes | Finding your way to the SRC, new UBC Aquatic Centre, and War Memorial Gym

To War Memorial Gym

  • Walk south towards the Student Recreation Centre and turn left on Student Union Boulevard to head east
  • Walk past the Student Recreation Centre to the bus loop and turn right onto Wesbrook Mall
  • Follow the sidewalk past the current bus loop and new bus loop (currently under construction)
  • Turn right on the walking path between the construction sites, and the gym will be on your left.

To the UBC Aquatic Centre

  • Head south across the street and you will see the Student Recreation Centre
  • Walk between the SRC and the Old SUB construction site (fenced area)
  • The new UBC Aquatic Centre is on your left

To the Student Recreation Centre

  • Head south across the street and you will see the Student Recreation Centre

To War Memorial Gym

  • Go south towards the Student Recreation Centre and turn left on Student Union Boulevard to head east
  • Go past the Student Recreation Centre to the bus loop and turn right onto Wesbrook Mall
  • Follow the sidewalk past the current bus loop and new bus loop (currently under construction)
  • Turn right on the path between the construction sites and the wheelchair ramp into the gym will be on your left. It is marked with a sign.

To the UBC Aquatic Centre

  • Head south across the street and you will see the Student Recreation Centre
  • Head between the Student Recreation Centre and the Old SUB construction site (fenced area)
  • The new UBC Aquatic Centre is on your left

To the Student Recreation Centre

  • Head south across the street and you will see the Student Recreation Centre  

To War Memorial Gym

  • Walk west down University Blvd. past Mahoney and Sons. You should be walking on the sidewalk on the other side of the street from Mahoney and Sons.
  • To get to War Memorial Gym, turn right at the path between the construction sites and the gym is marked by a large poster of an individual climbing and the words “human potential reached from here”

To the UBC Aquatic Centre

  • Walk west, to the end of the roundabout on University Blvd and turn right towards the sign saying AMS Student Nest.
  • Walk to the end of the path and turn left to walk around the Old SUB. You will continue to walk around this building and the fences surrounding it.
  • The path will open up into the Student Nest Plaza. Turn right to head north and follow the path by the tall trees.
  • Turn right to head east at the path before the statue of the woman holding up a torch.
  • Follow this path until you see the Student Recreation Centre on your right.
  • Right before you reach the Student Recreation Centre, turn right along the path with fences lined with “Welcome to the new UBC Pool” and follow the path. The UBC Aquatic Centre will be on your left.

To the Student Recreation Centre

  • Walk west, to the end of the roundabout on University Blvd and turn right towards the sign saying AMS Student Nest. Keep to the right
  • Walk to the end of the path and turn left to walk around the Old SUB. You will continue to walk around this building and the fences surrounding it.
  • The path will open up into the Student Nest Plaza. Turn right to head north and follow the path by the tall trees.
  • Turn right to head east at the path before the statue of the woman holding up a torch
  • Follow this path until you see the Student Recreation Centre on your right.

To War Memorial Gym

  • Head west on University Blvd on the sidewalk opposite Mahoney & Sons:
    1. turn right at the first path and the Gym is marked with a poster of an individual climbing and the words “human potential reached from here”
    2. Turn right just before the stairs onto the path that goes around the south side of the building.
    3. Turn left into the doors directly before the set of stairs on the path.

To the Student Recreation Centre

  • Head west, to the end of the roundabout on University Blvd and turn right towards the sign saying AMS Student Nest. Keep to the right.
  • Head to the end of the path and turn left to move around the Old SUB. You will continue to walk around this building and the fences surrounding it.
  • The path will open up into the Student Nest Plaza. Turn left to the ramp, then turn right to head north and follow the path by the tall trees.
  • Turn right to head east at the path before the statue of the woman holding up a torch.
  • Follow this path until you see the Student Recreation Centre on your right.

Drop-in with UBC Recreation!

Drop-in are available for Aquatics, Ice, Sports, and Instructional classes. Please refer to the most up-to-date schedule. No registration required. Simply show up at the location about 10 minutes before the scheduled start time and check in at the front desk.

Ballet 1 and Ballet 2 classes CANCELLED | January 15, 2017

Please note that Ballet 1 (4-5:30PM) and Ballet 2 (5:30-7PM) classes in the Student Recreation Centre Studio on Sunday, January 15 have unfortunately been cancelled for this week. The classes will resume next weekend at the same times, and those classes will be offered for free in lieu of this weeks free classes for Free Week. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Dance like Beyonce and Lady Gaga with our NEW DIVA DANCE CLASS!

Free Week is still ongoing! It runs until Sunday, January 15th. Check out the Free Week Schedule and choose from a wide variety of class formats to stay motivated and get involved in campus life!


Diva Dance is a fusion of Jazz and Commercial dance with a lot of sassy and sexy moves where you can get fit, have fun, and feel sexy!!

In this class, you will learn a variety of different dance moves in a routine including hair-flips and hip-sways. This dance class will make you feel great and boost your confidence.

If you’re a complete beginner, then don’t worry as this class is available at all levels. Come to have fun and be empowered!


What are the cool things about Free Week?

  • All classes are drop-in basis – no pre-registration is required.
  • Try out as many classes as you want, for free!
  • Beginners are welcome at all classes

Tips for Participants

  • Remember to wear comfortable clothing and bring water
  • Arrive 10 minutes early for all classes and plan to stay until the end
