Marilu Reynoso

Bio

Born in Mexico City, Marilú has been dancing and teaching for more than 10 years. She studied the degree in Contemporary Dance in the National School of Arts in Mexico City. She also has a background in , Hip hop, Jazz and all kinds of Latin dances, dancing with the most important Latin artists and important T.V Mexican shows. Now in Vancouver she is has been teaching, Dance Fit, Latin dance, Contemporary Jazz and Zumba in various locations around the city. .

 

Marilu is the Dance Director and choreographer of Sensalsa with a new Ladies styling salsa class and performance group. Now with the UBC community, her mission is to share her passion and experience of dance and the good and organic motion of the body to be fit and happy.

She’s taught workshops in Latin dance and lady’s styling specifically in Salsa on 1 and on 2 in Mexico City and other Latin congresses in different cities in Mexico.

Bio

Jennifer is a fitness enthusiast who seeks to inspire and motivate others to live more actively. She has been involved in a variety of activities and sports such as swimming, volleyball, track and field, dance, yoga, powerlifting and more! She believes that everyone should take part in a physical activity in order to live a healthy lifestyle. Being active helps reduce health risks, increases energy, confidence and happiness! It also provides an opportunity to meet new friends.

Jennifer likes to incorporate unique movements and exercises learned from the variety of activities that she has been involved in. She has a specific interest in strength, conditioning, powerlifting, and core exercises.

Arbind is in his fourth year of Kinesiology at UBC. He has played a wide variety of sports while growing up, including over a decade of Ice and Ball hockey, with some coaching experience. He understands and applies the principle of specificity when it comes to training, for a results based approach.

Kirby Rae Snell

Bio

Kirby Rae Snell’s dance (dance-fitness) programs are a fun hybrid of sultry and sweaty.  Kirby is an international choreographer, dance-fitness presenter and performer. Her professional career has taken her throughout Europe, the West-Indies, Central and North America. She has choreographed for artistic dance films including ‘Evanescent’ and ‘Zyra,’ is a sought after dance-fitness presenter performing regularly in large scale events such as for the Canadian Cancer Society and is an advocate to implement more dance programming into elementary and secondary school systems.  She is the founder of Endorphin Rush Dance and Fitness and believes in the power of the endorphin high produced through dance-fitness.  She creates innovative dance and dance-fitness programs which are taught in welcoming environments where participants can let loose while dripping with sweat and expressing themselves.

Jennifer Leung

Bio

Jennifer took her first Zumba class in 2013 and she has never looked back. This is the perfect combination of dance and fitness. Ever since she started with Zumba, she has made significant changes to her lifestyle to stay healthy and active. Although she works full time during the day, she still loves to dance with her students. The reason she enjoys teaching is simple: she likes to inspire and motivate her students to be the best that they can while following her lead and enjoying the class without being judged. It’s a safe environment to let go and let loose. She believes everyone is able to make a positive change whether it be their lifestyle, their health, or overall building up of their confidence and she is passionate about helping others make that change.
Jennifer is also very active in the community with different fundraising events for various organizations including BC Children’s Hospital, CIBC Run for the Cure, United Way, Canadian Cancer Society Workout to Conquer Cancer and the local food bank.

Tony is a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor and a fitness competitor. Has been in the fitness industry for over 6 six years. He has always lead an active, healthy lifestyle and is passionate about helping others achieve peak performance.  What he is most passionate about is dance as it relates to fitness. Dancing is a way of being free and bringing out the rockstar within and a fun way of getting in peak physical condition.  Tony has taken courses in hip hop and break dancing and studied partner salsa dancing for over 4 years.  When he was introduced to Zumba he fell in love with it because it combined his love of fitness and dance.

He’s got great moves and great energy to inspire you to dance your way to great fitness level – and you are guaranteed to have fun.

Mika Fogelman

With over six years of musical theatre, jazz, ballet, and lyrical dance experience, Mika is passionate about dance and the performing arts. As a kinesiology student, she aims to incorporate her fitness and health knowledge into her Zumba classes, encouraging her students to challenge themselves and have fun while doing so. In her Zumba classes, Mika emphasizes that it doesn’t matter how you look or move, because as long as you’re feeling the music and letting loose, then you’re doing it right. Her goal is to make her participants forget all of their worries and stresses, even if it’s simply for an hour while in class. Dancing has always been such a big stress reliever for her, and she hopes she can bring a smile and a few fun moves to every participant!

Alisa Vink

Bio

Alisa Vink is an emerging contemporary dance artist from Vancouver, BC. She began her dance training at the age of thirteen and has trained in a Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Musical Theater. To further her training she attended the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University where she receive a BFA Honours in Dance. While attending SFU, she has had the pleasure of working with various local and international choreographers, she has also performed and choreographed for the SFU Student Dance Concerts and Ascension 4. Outside of SFU, she has been a dance assistant & demonstrator to Sarah Brewer-Clowes, as well as an apprentice dancer for Heather Laura Gray’s full length production, THE TUNNEL. As dance teacher, Alisa is committed to sharing her passion for dance with others.

Emily enjoys teaching barre, pilates, yoga and different types of group fitness classes and enjoys various sports and activities including running, tennis, volleyball and dancing.

As a healthcare professional she sees the benefit of pilates, barre, yoga and exercise incorporated into her participant’s and patient’s health regime to stay healthy and happy in mind, body and spirit!

Saloome Motavas

Bio

Saloome has been a Zumba instructor since 2012 with a B1 and Zumba Sentao certificate. She has always been passionate about merging dance and fitness, and creating an inclusive environment that is effective and enjoyable for all, regardless of their dance/fitness level.

Saloome’s fitness background is in gymnastics and martial arts. She has a gymnastics coaching certificate and has won several medals in national inter-university gymnastics competitions. She is also a brown belt in Kanzen Ryu karate. Saloome has practiced a variety of dance styles, such as Salsa and other forms of latin dance. She continues training and educating herself in different dance genres to add variety and style to her Zumba routines.

Alex is in her final year of studies at UBC; majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Psychology. She is eager to be able to apply her sport and health background to others and watch them grow. She has been involved in a variety of sports over the years, and has been dragon boating for over 8 years, as well as played on club touring teams for ultimate frisbee. Alex knows and understands the benefits of staying active and aims to bring this awareness to others.

Throughout her life, sport and physical activity have  played a huge part in her mentality and lifestyle. Mental toughness and the ability to motivate and push ones self is just as crucial as the workout.

James Pang

Bio

James is in his 4th year of Kinesiology at UBC. He plays basketball, football, volleyball, and badminton. He has attended the Center for Performance provincial training programs for basketball and played on various club teams in high school. James is currently an assistant coach on a high school basketball team. He also teaches young kids the fundamental skills of basketball.

As part of his kinesiology studies, he’s completed a performance analysis class on volleyball taught by a current UBC Thunderbirds assistant coach. He is a certified NCCP Gymnastics level 1 coach, and has been trained in NCCP fundamental movement skills.

In his spare time James enjoys lifting weights, playing basketball, and hiking around Vancouver. James’s passion is in spreading knowledge of health and fitness to those around him.
