Michael is a 4th year biology student at UBC and has a passion for fitness and exercise. He strongly believes that being active leads to a happy and healthy lifestyle. Michael has been playing sports all his life and has a background in competitive swimming martial arts and is currently playing varsity level rugby for UBC. 

As a personal trainer, Michael will provide you with his experience and knowledge to create the best training experience possible to help you reach your goals.

Bio

Born in Mexico City, Marilú has been dancing and teaching for more than 10 years. She studied the degree in Contemporary Dance in the National School of Arts in Mexico City. She also has a background in , Hip hop, Jazz and all kinds of Latin dances, dancing with the most important Latin artists and important T.V Mexican shows. Now in Vancouver she is has been teaching, Dance Fit, Latin dance, Contemporary Jazz and Zumba in various locations around the city. .

 

Marilu is the Dance Director and choreographer of Sensalsa with a new Ladies styling salsa class and performance group. Now with the UBC community, her mission is to share her passion and experience of dance and the good and organic motion of the body to be fit and happy. 

 

Qualifications

Zumba Licensed Instructor
Professional Dance certificate.

She’s taught workshops in Latin dance and lady’s styling specifically in Salsa on 1 and on 2 in Mexico City and other Latin congresses in different cities in Mexico.

Jennifer is a fitness enthusiast who seeks to inspire and motivate others to live more actively. She has been involved in a variety of activities and sports such as swimming, volleyball, track and field, dance, yoga, powerlifting and more! She believes that everyone should take part in a physical activity in order to live a healthy lifestyle. Being active helps reduce health risks, increases energy, confidence and happiness! It also provides an opportunity to meet new friends.

Jennifer likes to incorporate unique movements and exercises learned from the variety of activities that she has been involved in. She has a specific interest in strength, conditioning, powerlifting, and core exercises.

Jennifer’s goal is to promote healthy living by creating a comfortable atmosphere and fun workouts which are personalized for your specific needs and goals.

Ryan has a Bachelor of Kinesiology from UBC with a minor in nutrition which he believes to be a fundamental part of any training program. In addition, he has also been accepted into the Physiotherapy program at UBC.

His approach to training incorporates the technical aspects of anatomy, physiology, and nutrition as well as emphasis on personal goals and lifestyle changes. As coach for the UBC Dragon Boat Team and an outdoor activity enthusiast, he understands the importance and value of physical activity in both competitive and recreational settings.

He will take you through a balanced training program to meet your current fitness goals and strive towards new ones.

Jai Iyer

Jai is an example of been there, done that. He doesn’t come from an athletic background but has made huge changes in his lifestyle and incorporated the healthy way of living since 2010. He has been a marathon runner, a martial arts practitioner and now he competes in fitness and bodybuilding shows.

His approach is not only to train his client but to bring about a healthy lifestyle change by recommending healthy food choices and proper exercise techniques. He is experienced in training people who enjoy athletics, fitness competitions and people who have never worked out before.

His strength lies in understanding clients needs and creating specific workouts for each person. Jai understands how difficult it is to get started with workouts. He has tremendous empathy towards his clients.

Oona Otobor

Oona is in her final year studying kinesiology at UBC. She has a keen interest in health and fitness and she believes that physical activity should be enjoyed part of one’s daily lifestyle. She has been actively engaged in a variety of sports and continues to play basketball at a competitive level.

Oona has worked with people of all ages and fitness levels. This includes assisting varsity athletes in a group setting with warm ups and correcting muscular imbalances. She has also helped physiotherapists in fitness classes for elderly individuals. She lead mobility exercises to a group of recovering stroke survivors, promoting maximal recovery for individuals resulting in increased confidence in physical ability.

Success is measured in many different ways. Oona will help motivate you to achieve personal fitness goals.

Bryan Lopez

Bryan is a fourth year kinesiology student at UBC. He has been very active in a variety of sports and has spent many years playing and coaching basketball.

His experience ranges from coaching high school boys basketball to helping physiotherapy assistants with patients in rehabilitation and interning with the UBC Strength and Conditioning program.

As a personal trainer, Bryan will  provide you with a balanced individualized training program that is tailored to your specific needs, designed to maximize your results in an engaging and fun training experience.

He understands and applies the principle of specificity when it comes to training, for a results based approach. 

Arbind is passionate about living a healthy and active lifestyle. He believes that the benefits of regular exercise extend beyond improved physical health and fitness. Exercise is crucial in achieving optimal wellness, in body and mind.

Kirby Rae Snell

Bio

Kirby Rae Snell’s dance (dance-fitness) programs are a fun hybrid of sultry and sweaty.  Kirby is an international choreographer, dance-fitness presenter and performer. Her professional career has taken her throughout Europe, the West-Indies, Central and North America. She has choreographed for artistic dance films including ‘Evanescent’ and ‘Zyra,’ is a sought after dance-fitness presenter performing regularly in large scale events such as for the Canadian Cancer Society and is an advocate to implement more dance programming into elementary and secondary school systems.  She is the founder of Endorphin Rush Dance and Fitness and believes in the power of the endorphin high produced through dance-fitness.  She creates innovative dance and dance-fitness programs which are taught in welcoming environments where participants can let loose while dripping with sweat and expressing themselves.

Taha regularly practices bodybuilding, powerlifting, yoga, and basketball, and also has experience in a variety of areas such as soccer, mixed martial arts, and swimming.
