UBC Physical Activity Gardening

Join us this Spring for our free gardening workshops.  They're designed for the beginner or inexperienced gardeners and open to all UBC Community members. Please register early as space is limited.

Intro to Gardening
Thursday April 20 from 3 - 5 pm
Roots on the Roof (top floor of the Nest, 6133 University Blvd)
20 participants maximum. Registration is now closed for this, but some drop-in space is available.

Join us for an interactive gardening workshop at the rooftop garden of the Nest:

  • Learn what's currently being grown in the rooftop garden and the role of the rooftop garden in our community;
  • Explore the meaning of food for your own family and culture;
  • Learn how to identify weeds in a garden bed and how to properly remove them;
  • Plant your own herbs to take home with you and learn tips on maintenance.

    Spaces in these workshops are limited and priority will be given to those who register in advance. Drop-in is welcome but we cannot guarantee a spot to drop-in participants.

    We want to make sure these workshops allow everyone to participate and have fun. We're happy to discuss these workshops with you if you have concerns, whether it's because you're a new participant, you need or want to request accommodations, or you're worried about your skills, health or some other issue.

Potted Gardening & Food Connections
Tuesday, May 16 from 5- 7 pm
Roots on the Roof (top floor outdoor garden in the Nest, 6133 University Blvd)

  • This adult-oriented workshop is designed for you to learn about potted gardening and also explore your relationship to food and its meaning in your family and for yourself!
  • Register early as space is limited.
  • Be prepared to get dirty!

Centre for Integrative Research on Sustainability (CIRS), 2260 West Mall
Meet in the lobby! Maximum participants: 15

  • This adult-oriented workshop is designed for you to learn about potted gardening and also explore your relationship to food and its meaning in your family and for yourself!
  • Register early as space is limited to 15 participants.
  • Be prepared to get dirty!

Parent & Tot Gardening

We'll be offering a workshop for parents/guardians and their tots in May. Check back soon for dates and registration!
