Public skating access is free for currently registered UBC Students with their UBC Card. Must scan card each visit.

Skate Descriptions

Lace up the skates and come have some fun! Public Skating sessions are a great introduction to ice skating or a fun-filled evening with a group of friends. Don’t forget, current UBC Students skate for free with a valid UBC Card.

  • All skater must check in at the proshop
  • All participants must wear skates
  • Helmet and gloves are strong recommended for all skaters
  • Participants the age of 12 and younger must wear a CSA approved helmet
  • Strollers permitted (helmet required)
  • Skate bars are available
  • No speed skates, ice digging with skate blades, jumps, or spins are allowed
  • No "horseplay", fast skating, or cutting in and out allowed
  • No games, sticks, pucks, or balls allowed
  • Anyone perceived to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be refused entry
  • No food or beverage allowed on the ice
  • Staff members have the right to ask for proof of age, a passport can be used to identify age of skater

Drop-In Hockey is a great way to keep on the ice regularly, to dust off the skates, or for those looking to try the game for the first time. Regular sessions run throughout the year for this non-contact drop-in program. You must sign up to ensure your place on the roster.

To sign up, you must to call the proshop at 604-827-4324 to reserve your spot. Spots are reserved on the day of only.

  • Full equipment is required
  • Student or Government Issued Photo ID is required for pinny rental
  • Minimum age is 16 years
  • Anyone perceived to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be refused entry
  • Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the game to sign in. If you are not here, you may lose your spot to someone on the waitlist
  • Staff members have the right to ask for proof of age, a passport can be used to identify age of skater

New to the game? Know the game, but looking to brush up those skills? Just wanting to get on the ice in a non-game or non-competitive environment? Stick & Puck is the answer to all of the above and a great way to get on the ice any time throughout the year. You don't even need all the gear! Space is limited & session rules do apply.

  • Maximum 30 skaters on the ice
  • Student or Government Issued Photo ID is required for pinny rental
  • Full gear is recommended for all participants
  • All participants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult
  • Full gear is required for participants under 16 years old
  • Helmets are mandatory for all skaters
  • Pucks available for purchase from the proshop (or bring your own)
  • Anyone perceived to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be refused entry
  • Goalies, games and scrimmages are not permitted during the session

Family Hockey is a fun way for parents and kids to play together in a safe, toned down atmosphere! Helmets are required for all participants and all adults must be accompanied by a child. It is recommended that all youth wear full gear for their own safety. As this is a program geared towards children and youth, no slap shots or hard wrist shots are permitted during the session.

  • Goalies, games and scrimmages are not permitted during the session
  • Helmets are mandatory for all skaters
  • Pucks available for purchase from the proshop (or bring your own)

Enjoy some practice time for your jumps and spins. This time is reserved for figure skaters only. All skaters must sign in at the proshop.
