at the University of British Columbia’s Triathlon Duathlon

March 10, 2018

Join the UBC Thunderbirds Triathlon Sport Club at the inagural Northwest Collegiate Triathlon Championships to race against other students from the region in a fun sprint distance triathlon on our Vancouver campus.

Things to know about the event:

The Northwest Collegiate Triathlon Championships (NWCTCs) are hosted by the UBC Thunderbirds Triathlon Sport Club, with the aim of allowing universities and colleges from BC, Alberta, and the Pacific Northwest regions of the USA to compete against each other to determine the champions. The inaugural event will be held on the beautiful Point Grey campus of The University of British Columbia during the UBC Triathlon Duathlon event.

There will be awards and prizes for both individual competitors and teams. The winning individuals and team will be crowned the first Northwest Collegiate Triathlon Champions.

To participate in this event, you must still be classed as a full-time student, and be affiliated with the triathlon team at your university. If your school does not have a triathlon team, but you are still interested in entering the Championships please email the UBC Thunderbirds Triathlon Sport Club.

Please note that team entry is desired for this event. A team is classed as 3 or more people of the same gender from the same university. At the event there will be prizes for teams as well as prizes for individual competitors.

Our vision is a collegiate race series that includes more than 4 highly competitive collegiate races across BC, Alberta, and the Northwestern United States. For 2018, we aim to get a number of different schools and universities to attend our event at the UBC Triathlon Duathlon. We want this race to kickstart the momentum that we need to get this series established, and most importantly foster a community of competition and fun with other collegiate athletes.

Over the next few years, we dream of being inducted into some well-established races with rich histories like the Wildflower Triathlon in CA, as well as help other races gain popularity and grow by bringing some high-end racing to them. As we grow, the possibilities can be endless; from moving to draft-legal racing, adding in supersprint qualification heats with multi-day racing, to including other forms of multisport like duathlons and aquathlons. Let’s make triathlon exciting for collegiate athletes in the Pacific Northwest and help grow the sport!

We hope you share our hopes and dreams - see you in March in Vancouver!

The NWCTCs will be run at the UBC Triathlon Duathlon in the non-drafting sprint triathlon distance race. Collegiate championship athletes will race in a separate heat in the UBC Aquatic Centre, after Age Group athletes. Collegiate championship athletes will additionally have their own area of transition and a different colour race number for easy identification of who to race on the bike course!

What is considered a team?

A team is 3 members from the same university of the same gender.

How do the team awards work?

We will combine the times of the 3 fastest athletes of the same gender from your university. The team with the lowest combined time will place first in that category. For schools bringing 6 or more athletes, a B team will be made from the following 3 athletes, with the times combined in the same way, and so on.

What insurance do I need prior to the event?
