What are the different roles?
We have various roles that include cycle transition, route marshals, registration, pool marshals and security.

How many hours do I need to volunteer for?
We love ALL of our volunteers no matter how long they volunteer for, we accept anywhere from one hour to 8 hours or more!

Can I volunteer outside of the specified shift times?
You can volunteer the day before the race (Friday March 6th) for race route set-up if you are available!

Is there food?
Yes, we will have coffee and breakfast for the early morning volunteers and lunch (likely sandwiches) will be given to all volunteers. You will also be greeted regularly by our friendly staff experience volunteers who will bring water and snacks throughout the day

If I signed up for clean up, how long will that take?
It varies but most likely 2-3 hours of clean up and tidying. It’s the homestretch!

Are their plans for weather?
Make sure you bring a waterproof jacket, we run our events rain or shine! But we will do our best to keep you as dry and warm as possible.

Is there a training session?
There will be a volunteer orientation session, if you were unable to attend please make sure that you have spoken to or you email the staffing coordinator about your duties!

Do I need first aid/what if someone gets hurt?
In most areas there will be someone on hand who has first aid. If you aren’t sure or comfortable talk to your area leader who will be able to direct the situation into the correct hands.

If I need a reference letter to prove I volunteered how do I get one?
Just let the staffing coordinator know that you will need a letter of proof of service and we will be able to get one to you shortly after the event.

How can I have more fun at UBC Triathlon?

Cheer on participants, imagine how exhausted they must be!

Where do I get my wet-bag/where do I place it after the pool/pick it up after my race?
You can pick up your wet-bag at the pre-race-day pick up session or on the day of at registration
You will hand it in at the pool, after you have transitioned to the cycle your wet-bag will be moved to the finish line where you can pick it up after the race.

Do relay teams also get champion shirts?
All winners will receive champion shirts!

Where can I park?
North Parkade on the UBC campus is the most convenient, it costs $10 for the day and is located on Student Union Blvd.

What is the maximum time I can take to complete the race?
We let you complete the race at your own speed, we will only pull you out if you are endangering your health or safety or that of others.

Where is registration and where do I leave my bike?
You can take your bike over to cycle transition and register and leave your bike in our secure area, then you can make your way over tot he pool to get your number stamped on and acquire your timing chip.

How far is the transition from pool to cycle?
The route is approx. 400m

Do I get a T-Shirt for competing?
You can choose to get a T-shirt with your registration, you can also purchase a limited amount on the day. If you win your age group you get a UBC Intramurals Champion Tshirt!
Everyone gets a participation gift, you are all amazing in our eyes!

I think my swim time has improved since signing up, can I move heats?
If it is more than one week out you can switch heats, if it is race day, just hop to the front of the line in your heat.

I am on a relay team, do we all get numbers?
The runner and the cyclist get numbers, the swimmer will have a number stamped on at the pool.
