About the Team
The UBC Thunderbirds Tennis Sport Club – both Women’s and Men’s – is a competitive club consisting of 16 to 24 student-athletes. The team competes against other Canadian universities of both Varsity and Club level in the Canadian University and College League throughout the season. The ultimate goal of the Tennis Sport Club is to win Nationals while enjoying the game of tennis and improving during the season from September until March. For recruitment or donation inquiries please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The team is made up of student-athletes who all share a passion for the sport of tennis and who wish to compete in tennis to represent UBC. New players who share the team’s passion and will add positively to the team are always welcome. We invite all students who are interested in competing at a high-level in tennis to come to try-outs in September at the beginning of each academic year.
The current team members maintain a high, competitive level of tennis. Therefore, previous experience is highly recommended in both practice and match situations for prospective players. Interested players are always welcome to try-out in September for the upcoming season.
Expectations for the tennis student-athletes throughout the season include:
- Attendance of two practices per week
- Attendance at important competitions such as; Regionals, Westerns, and Nationals (if team qualifies)
- Attendance at fundraising events such as; October Tennis Mixer
- Best efforts at all competitions, practices, and other events
Team fees will vary depending on the number of competitions and fundraising, but are expected to be between $50 to $150 per term for practice court fees, and about $75 for competition apparel.
*Depending on fundraising, competition fees will be determined at a later time.
Practices are held at the UBC Tennis Centre. There will be:
- One-two hour practice on a weeknight
- One-two hour practice on the weekend
Days will be decided once the roster is established to best accommodate student-athletes.
