About the Team
The UBC Thunderbirds Water Polo Sport Club is a competitive Water Polo team competing in the Northwest Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) and are the only Canadian team in the United States based CWPA. We compete in Men’s/Co-Ed Water Polo league during Term 1 and are actively engaged in assembling a Women’s team for Term 2 competition.
UBC Thunderbirds Water Polo Sport Club provides the highest level of University Water Polo available in Canada, allowing top caliber athletes to test their skills against well trained American competition. Joining also includes you in a welcoming team atmosphere with a well-developed social aspect, providing instant friendships and a guaranteed support system.
Team members will be selected through a tryout process. Players must have a basic knowledge of water polo rules and the ability to perform basic water polo skills such as treading water, passing, shooting, swimming head up front crawl. If there are more players than we can take, the final roster will be determined by the coach in consultation with the executive team. Players must also be able to attend 2/3 of league tournaments and attend practice three times a week. In addition, all members need a valid passport to compete in the United States.
Players must attend scheduled try out in September, time and location to be confirmed closer to the beginning of the academic year. Further inquiries can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Team fees will be approximately $300 CAD per person for the coming season, which covers pool practice rental, travel, lodging and fees for all three tournaments. Players must help with fundraising events to make up for expenses not covered by team fees. Any money not spent will be reimbursed at the end of the year.
During the second term, we will be sharing practice times with the AMS Water Polo club. Practices are held in the new UBC Aquatic Center:
- Tuesdays from 8:30-10:00pm
- Thursdays from 8:30-10:00pm
- Saturdays from 11:00-12:30pm
The competition schedule for the 2016-17 Water Polo season is as follows

- October 8-9, 2016 at Osborne Aquatic Center, Corvallis, Oregon

As a first year competitive sport club, UBC Thunderbirds Water Polo Sport Club has yet to record any results; but aims to be highly competitive at an elite level of collegiate Water Polo.
UBC TSC Water Polo is a branch off of the existing AMS UBC Water Polo Club. This year marks exciting changes and development as UBC TSC Water Polo enters its first year as a competitive club, officially representing UBC in collegiate Water Polo, and becoming a member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
