The UBC Thunderbirds Sport Clubs program is proud to celebrate the sporting achievements, commitment and leadership of student executives, and overall appreciation for the student-athletes at the Year End Banquet.

Teammate of the Year Award

The Teammate of the Year award is presented to the individuals who embody the essence of sportsmanship and team spirit in each sport club.

TSC Rookie of the Year

This award is given to the top student-athlete (s) who demonstrate extraordinary athletic performance in their first year of intercollegiate competition. 

TSC Athlete of the Year

TSC Athlete of the Year is awarded to the top student-athlete (s) who demonstrate extraordinary athletic performance in their given discipline.

TSC Executives of the Year Award

The TSC Executives of the Year award is given to the team of executives who have presented themselves as unified leaders for their team.

TSC Student Leadership Award

The TSC Student Leadership Award is given to student-athlete (s) who demonstrates several qualities of a leader.

TSC Team of the Year

The winners of the Thunderbirds Sport Clubs Team of the Year Award are highly competitive and exemplify the spirit of sportsmanship. 

TSC Legacy Award

The TSC Legacy Award is awarded to TSC’s outstanding graduating athlete(s), who have served as a leader both on and off their competitive surface.


Teammate of the Year Award

The Teammate of the Year award (formerly known as the Team Sportsmanship award) is presented to the individuals that embody the essence of sportsmanship and team spirit in each sport club. These student-athletes bring positive energy and attitude to the group during practice and competitions. These particular individuals were nominated and chosen by their peers.

TSC Executives of the Year Award

The TSC Executives of the Year award is given to the team of executives that have presented themselves as unified leaders for their team. They demonstrate initiative and action to progress their sport club both administratively and competitively. These executives place an emphasis on open communication with their peers, other members of the executive council, and the sport club office. They express passion and motivation for developing the Thunderbird sport club culture.

TSC Student Leadership Award

The TSC Student Leadership Award is given to the individual who demonstrates several qualities of a leader. They are hardworking and dedicated to seeing the progression of their sport club. They understand the importance of team success without sacrificing individual achievements. The student(s) shows positivity, are resilient when faced with challenges, and serve as a role model. They are the heart of the team.

The winners of the Thunderbirds Sport Clubs Team of the Year Award are highly competitive and exemplify the spirit of sportsmanship. They strive for excellence on and off their playing field, embody the responsibilities and values of a UBC student athlete, and contribute positively to the UBC community. The team of the year are passionate and committed to their respective sport as individuals, but more importantly as a team.

TSC Legacy Award

The TSC Legacy Award is presented to TSC’s outstanding graduating athlete(s), who has served as a leader both on and off their competitive surface. This award takes into consideration career athletic achievement, leadership, contribution to their club, and overall impact on the TSC program. The individual(s) who are recognized with this award have left a lasting impression on their team and the program during their time as a TSC athlete.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Minimum three years in Thunderbird Sport Clubs
  • Must have represented UBC at a competition sanctioned by their sport’s governing body
  • Preference to those who have served as an executive for their sport club for a minimum of one whole season
